Hospice care injuries occur when a hospice provider fails to deliver safe and appropriate care to a vulnerable patient. Families place enormous trust in hospice providers to manage pain, administer medications properly, prevent falls, and treat patients with dignity. When that trust is broken, the consequences can be devastating.

Injuries in hospice settings may involve medication errors, improper dosing, failure to monitor vital signs, preventable falls, dehydration, bedsores, or neglect. Aggression from patients and staff can also lead to serious harm. These cases often turn on whether the provider followed accepted standards of care and properly supervised staff. Documentation, staffing levels, and prior complaints can all become critical evidence.

Facilities and their insurers may try to minimize what happened or claim that a patient’s decline was inevitable. But preventable harm is not excused simply because someone is elderly or terminally ill. Families have the right to ask hard questions when something does not feel right.
